Day 1: Stabilize and filter
A green pool isn't broken — it's overgrown.
- Test pH and bring to 7.4–7.6
- Test alkalinity and bring to 80–120 ppm
- Run filter 24/7 starting now (do not turn off)
- Clear visible debris with a leaf rake
Day 2–3: Crush the algae
This is the hard phase. Use cal-hypo shock at 3× normal dose, repeated 24 hours later if needed.
- Add cal-hypo shock at 3 lbs per 10,000 gallons
- Brush walls thoroughly after dosing
- Run pump continuously
- Repeat shock after 24 hours if water remains green
Day 4–5: Remove the food source
Algae returns if you don't address phosphates.
- Add phosphate remover per label
- Backwash or clean filter — it's now loaded with dead algae
- Add clarifier to coagulate remaining particles
Day 6–7: Polish and verify
Water should turn cloudy-blue, then clear.
- Vacuum to waste any settled debris
- Test water — chlorine should hold above 3 ppm with normal demand
- Test combined chlorine — should be below 0.5 ppm
- Resume normal weekly service schedule
