Pool stains are diagnostic clues.
Pool ownership is a long-term partnership with chemistry, equipment, and weather. The advice below comes from working technicians who service hundreds of DFW pools every week.
Stain-color guide
- Yellow-brown → iron (well water sources)
- Blue-grey → copper (corroding heater core or algicide overuse)
- Green → algae or copper
- White scale → calcium
- Black → manganese or severe algae
- Pink/red → bacteria biofilm
Wrong treatment makes most stains worse. Test water first, then dose specifically.
