DFW pools lose 1–2 inches of water per week to evaporation alone.
Pool ownership is a long-term partnership with chemistry, equipment, and weather. The advice below comes from working technicians who service hundreds of DFW pools every week.
When to suspect a leak
- More than 2 inches per week loss
- Wet spots in adjacent landscaping
- Air bubbles in pump basket
- Equipment area shows mineral staining
The bucket test
Fill a 5-gallon bucket and place on a pool step submerged to the waterline. Mark water levels inside and outside. Check after 24 hours. If the pool drops faster than the bucket, you have a leak.
Professional leak detection
Pressure test plumbing then dye test surface penetrations then ground sensors if needed. Typical DFW cost: $325–$525.
