What a noisy pool pump is telling you
Pool pump noise sorts into four families. A rising screech or growl is motor bearings. A gravel rattle is cavitation or debris in the impeller. A loud hum with no rotation is usually a capacitor. A drone that shakes the deck is resonance through the pad and plumbing rather than a fault.
What do the different pump noises actually mean?
A screech or a rising metallic growl that gets worse as the motor warms up is bearings. Bearings do not recover.
