- The current feels weaker than it did last year
- Flow is dropping somewhere. Loaded cartridges, a partly closed valve and a current pump losing its impeller edge all feel identical to a swimmer, so we measure flow rather than guess from how it swims.
- The unit takes far longer to reach temperature
- Slow recovery almost always means restricted flow or a scaled heat exchanger, not a dead element. On our fill water the exchanger is the first suspect, and it is a cleanable problem when it is caught early.
- Water goes cloudy by midweek every week
- You are running pool intervals on hot, small volume water. A swim spa turns its whole contents over many times a day and burns sanitizer doing it. It needs a spa schedule, not a pool one.
- The cover is heavy and sagging in the middle
- The foam core has soaked up water. A waterlogged cover insulates poorly, costs you heat every night, and eventually breaks the lifter or somebody back. It is a replacement item, not a repair item.
- The breaker trips when the current pump starts
- The biggest motor draws the most on startup. A breaker that only trips at that moment points at the pump, the wiring feeding it, or a circuit that was never sized for the load in the first place.

The current pump is the hardest working motor on the unit and a loaded filter starves it. That is a bearing and a seal wearing out for no reason, and the repair costs many times what a set of filters costs.
Dropping pool tablets in the skimmer
Tablets are strongly acidic and small volume water has no buffer to absorb that. pH crashes, the shell and jet faces etch, and stabilizer climbs to a level where chlorine stops working at all.
Leaving the cover open all day in summer
An uncovered swim spa in August loses water, heat and sanitizer to full sun, and the surface heats past where the pumps like to run. It also collects every bit of dust the wind carries off the road.
